Description
Incubator In a Box Project
LEAP Incubator In a Box Project
The Legal Aid Society of Orange County and our partner schools, Chapman University Dale E. Fowler School of Law; The University of California, Irvine School of Law; Western State College of Law; and Whittier Law School believe that the incubator movement is an important event in the history of the legal profession. We hope that the incubator concept will eventually become an accepted and routine way of entering into private practice after law school. To that end, with the support of an ABA catalyst grant as well as contributions from our partner organizations we are in the process of creating an “Incubator in Box.” The purpose of the Incubator in a Box is to provide new incubator programs with a complete template for getting their own program off the ground. Below are some of the materials that we have created that will eventually form the core of the Incubator in a Box.
Most of the materials were created and are being curated by Andrew J. Benard, the Legal Aid LEAP Fellow. If you have questions or are looking for something specific that is not here you can contact him at ajb@ajblawoffice.com.

The Model Boot Camp
The Model Boot Camp is one of the most important components of the Incubator in a Box. One of the biggest problems any incubator program faces is the fact that Lawyers do not necessarily know anything about running a small business. New Solos may be successful in their practice of law but may still fail because they did not know how to run the business side of the firm. The Model Boot Camp is a series of video and live lectures that combine with a template business plan and other supporting materials to teach lawyers how to run a successful businesses. When complete the Model Boot Camp is expected to take about a week to equip incubator participants with the tools they need for their business. It is currently still a work in progress. But new materials are being added all the time. Some of the materials that are currently ready for public view can be found below.
