Fellowship applications are now open for the Fall 2018 workshop of the National Institute for Teaching Ethics & Professionalism (NIFTEP) to be held at the University of Melbourne Law School, Melbourne, Australia, immediately preceding the 8th International Legal Ethics Conference (ILEC8). To apply for the workshop, participants must be able to arrange their travel plans to arrive at the Melbourne Law School no later than 4 pm on Tuesday, December 4, and participate through the end of the workshop at 11 am on Thursday, December 6 (ILEC8 is expected to begin at 12 noon on December 6.) Strong preference is given to workshop applicants participating in ILEC8.

Deadline:
NIFTEP will begin processing applications beginning October 2 and plans to make selection decisions by the end of October. Therefore, applicants are strongly encouraged to submit their applications by October 1 for the limited number of fellowships (usually no more than 20). Applicants who need a decision prior to the end of October may request an early decision indicating the reason, such as travel planning, by email to the NIFTEP Deputy Director; whether to grant a request for early decision is at the discretion of NIFTEP.
Attendance & Costs:
Attendance is limited to invited speakers and to those selected to be NIFTEP Fellows. (Prior NIFTEP Fellows are welcome to apply for this workshop.) Fellowships are typically granted either to full-time law teachers or to legal practitioners actively involved in ethics continuing legal education and/or professionalism programs. However, any person committed to promoting ethics and professionalism may apply. There is no registration fee for the workshop, and meals during the workshop are included. Fellows are responsible for all their other expenses, including accommodation and travel to and within Melbourne.
NIFTEP is a consortium of six universities in the USA that have centers on legal ethics and the legal profession. Its Director and Deputy Director are based at the Georgia State University College of Law in Atlanta. NIFTEP has been conducting workshops and conferences on teaching ethics and professionalism since 2005, including international workshops held in Banff, Canada, in 2012, preceding ILEC5, and in London, in 2014, preceding ILEC6: http://www.niftep.org/past-workshops
The Fall 2018 workshop will include presentations and demonstrations on innovative and effective methods for teaching legal ethics, and will also provide hands-on training in the use of the world’s most comprehensive web-based resource for teaching legal ethics: www.teachinglegalethics.org
