The Modest Means Program is sponsored by the Atlanta Bar Association's Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LFIS). It provides legal services to Georgia residents who cannot afford a private attorney, but also do not qualify for Legal Aid.
The Modest Means Program is a public service program sponsored by the Atlanta Bar Association's Lawyer Referral and Information Service. It is designed to assist Georgia residents who are not financially eligible for Legal Aid, but who also do not have the resources to retain a private attorney at the standard market rate. Potential clients who qualify for the Modest Means Program are referred to a private attorney who has agreed to the specific terms of the program, including an initial retainer fee of no more than $600, or billable hours of $75 an hour maximum. The Modest Means Program is only currently available to residents of Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Dekalb, Douglas, Fayette, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry, Paulding, and Rockdale counties.
The Modest Means Program will accept applications in the following areas:
Flat Fee Services:
- Advance Directive for Healthcare
- Bankruptcy Chapter 7
- Bundled Service (Advance Directive for Healthcare, Power of Attorney, and Simple Will)
- Name Change
- Power of Attorney
- Simple Will
- Uncontested Guardianship of a Minor
Hourly Fee Cases:
- Child Support (modification/petition/contempt)
- Contested Guardianship of a Minor
- Custody (originial/modification)
- Deed Transfer
- Divorce
- Legitimation/ Paternity
- Seperate Maintenance
