Abstract
Current events continue to underscore the need for lawyers to exhibit and exercise leadership. The clergy sexual abuse scandal, the international financial crisis leading up to the Great Recession, and complicity in frauds perpetrated by the likes of Enron and Bernie Madoff all point to a need for leaders in the private and public sector. Lawyers have or should have filled leadership roles that check critical lapses in ethical judgement and decision-making. Dean Donald Polden "attempts to explain the reasons for the gap between what the legal profession values with respect to leadership competencies and what law school graduates are being taught, and more importantly, to fill those gaps by articulating a more robust case for leadership education for the legal profession."
